I recently came across a website called Neuroscience For Kids that I believe you will find extremely interesting and informative. At first I though it was primarily an online brain game site for kids, but what I found there was much, much more. According to the website author Eric H. Chudler, Ph.D:

“Neuroscience for Kids” is intended to be a resource for anyone who is interested in learning about the nervous system.

At the site there is a page called “Explore”.  The table of contents listed on that page gives you a glimpse of what you will find there.

Table of contents

* The World of Neuroscience
* Brain Basics
* Higher Functions
* Spinal Cord
* Peripheral Nervous System
* The Neuron
* Sensory Systems
* Methods and Techniques
* Drug Effects
* Neurological and Mental Disorders

The site provides a wealth of information about our brain and how it functions. It is well written and relatively easy to understand. However, don’t let the title throw you – I’d say the age level of the material is at about high school level.

I did find some online brain games at the site on a page called “Experiment”.   I’ve added this link to my Free Brain Games page.

If your at all the least bit curious about how our brain functions, then I suggest you go check out Neuroscience For Kids.

  2. Salaan Lee @ 2009-04-29 01:30

    HI,

    My name is Salaan lee, and I am an individual who lives in the United states. More specifically the Northeast. Currently a student in a graduate of height School. I’m 20 years of age and came to the states in 2007 after an arrival from my country, Somalia. Coming to the United States for some reason in me I pondered of behaviors of people. Sometimes I envied people for there abilities, and Sometimes cherished mine over theirs. But for the outmost desire in me was social outstandingness. Coming to this country my social qualities became to deteriorate upon arriving to this none social environment.

    So this change has happened in me and didn’t really understand at that moment the reason. But become a burning desire to fathom why I wasn’t as social as before. So I thought and pondering come to a consensus that maybe it was because I’ve didn’t conversate as much or talked as much or do enough reading or writing.

    I pondered many times on this and started notesting people behaviors around me thinking why this boy behaved in this manner, or how come I wasn’t able to do this, or why this boy was so slow, or how come this boy always get the funny jokes. Then I started to feel puzzled in a way and wonted to answer these questions of mine. So just like many I’ve fallen into that Myth that everybody has that a book would make you smarter or writing increases your intelligence I begin to explore the world. And mostly all the time things I did even if it was for an hour of the day affected my mental behavior throughout my day. But still, the results of reading or writing weren’t getting me to where I wonted to go. I wasn’t satisfied and all that writing I still couldn’t do things some of my piers where able to do.

    For instance just to get you understanding what I’m talking about. A very good example would be the famous comedian Dave Chappell now alot of people if you see can’t do the things he does. Does that make him smarter then everybody when he makes cowards out in front of him die out in laughter? NO, he just got different attributes then other people. But if you’re good at one thing then others mentally, you’re bound to lose something else in effect, and if you look at Dave Chappell when he is having a discussion his not very articulate or good as the average person in conversation.

    And that’s how I felt, even though I was good at math or critical thinking, when it came to conversation or communication, my high performance would end at that moment.

    (I could say I felt like instance Enstien who didn’t talk a word till three years of age, every late for his age but had a very good trate of thinking and poundering, but not every social guy, well that’s not what I wonted)

    And it was something I dearly wonted so I went on investigating, and stuck in that myth of reading and writing and that would make you smarter and good at everything your mind could work at.

    Long story short, from many months of ponder and thinking and eventually trying out new things (instead of writing all the time or reading). I’ve finely learned new ways in making your mind work with doing activities; I’ve learned the cause and effect of many things the average person wouldn’t ponder about.

    For instance I was reading today in an article how test where taking of people and how well they remembered things. And just listening to that made me know how irrelevant that would be, because that could defiantly be effected by how there day went or what they did that week prier to the other week, because one activity that I did for a day that I remember change the way my mind function that whole week. It was like I was a whole different person, and my class that day was trying to memorize poems and it was difficult for a lot of students to memorize there poems and the consequence of my activity made me even memorize there poems witch am not usually able to do.

    My memoir and the behavior of my mind change dramatically, and seem to work in a different way. I’ve learned theirs a lot of keys in the mind of a brain what you do affect the way your mind functions. And for that Dave Chappell what he does can be done if u only learn how to make your mind function in that way by just doing the right activity to help you across.

    Or have you notest when you have your good days where your mind seems the most active articulate and excited. Well all these I have found are able to be part of your everyday life.

    I wonted to make this brief but the complexity of it caused me to write so much. Sense I have these new self educated understanding in me I just wonted to share it with the world.

    I’ve learn how to use your cognitive thinking the most efficient way
    How to Use your *memory* the most efficient way
    What is the cause of ADHD, and how the counter the affect
    To be at a social high
